The rise of China as a global economic superpower presents significant opportunities and challenges for Australia. With negotiations of a bilateral Australia-China Free Trade Agreement well underway, both governments are facing intense domestic pressure to promote the interests of a multitude of groups.
What do Australia and China stand to gain and lose from a bilateral FTA? Under what terms should the agreement be signed? What will be the domestic and international political implications of the agreement? Mr Ric Wells>, Chief negotiator of the agreement, and Professor Frank Stilwell>, a leading political economist, will discuss the potential benefits and limitatiosn of a bilateral free trade agreement with the world's fastest growing economy.
