Free Trade with China?

The rise of China as a global economic superpower presents significant opportunities and challenges for Australia. With negotiations of a bilateral Australia-China Free Trade Agreement well underway, both governments are facing intense domestic pressure to promote the interests of a multitude of groups.

What do Australia and China stand to gain and lose from a bilateral FTA? Under what terms should the agreement be signed? What will be the domestic and international political implications of the agreement?

Mr Ric Wells, Chief negotiator of the agreement, and Professor Frank Stilwell, a leading political economist, will discuss the potential benefits and limitatiosn of a bilateral free trade agreement with the world's fastest growing economy.
