Peak Council Organising At Work: ACTU Strategy 1994-2000
By Rae Cooper
There have been significant developments in union organising strategy throughout the 1990s.
Cooper here attempts to fill what she sees as a void in the analysis of this union response to crisis via a look at the role the ACTU has played in union organising in the period 1994-2000. The article sets out the ACTU's organising initiatives, analyses changes in the organisation's approach and, building upon research on union change, analyses the influences over the national peak council's organising strategy during this time. She concludes that whilst the ACTU has clearly reoriented itself in this time, it is a different matter at the individual union level.
