Council Project Puts Workers’ Lives At Risk

Striking Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU) members staged a silent protest against workplace deaths outside Manchester Town Hall on 3 December.

The event's centrepiece was the release of 400 black balloons, each representing a workplace death in the UK during the previous 12 months.

The workers had been on strike since May 2003 over the refusal of Daf Electric to recognise their union and their right to collective bargaining
