Postal Workers in the UK Follow the RMT Out of the Labour Party
By Alex Gordon
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) Edinburgh and South East Scotland Branch have affiliated with the Scottish Socialist Party.
The decision comes three months after the Rail Maritime and Transport Workers Union (RMT) was expelled from the Labour Party on the grounds that it could no longer remain affiliated to Labour at all if some of its branches supported other political parties.
Branch secretary Derek Durkin said that the members were unhappy with the treatment of the RMT by the Labour Party and opposed to the government's drive to open up postal services to competition.
