Policy Labour Review, issue no. 139

Labour and Labor - Industrial Wage and Social Wage: Policy development and the path ahead for organised labour.

By Grant Belchamber

A personal view of the wrong approaches taken into the 2004 election campaign, stemming from the history of the relationship between unions and the ALP since 1993.

The instant experts and business ideologues have been hammering the ALP and union influences. Belchamber points out that there has never been less union involvement or discussion with ALP political figures. here has never been a lower ALP vote either. Go Figure.

"A close working relationship between the political and industrial wings of the labour movement is in the best interests of working Australians and their families, and did deliver this country its longest sustained period of progressive government."

(Dissent, no 16, summer 2004-2005)
