European Labour Law
the last ten years
By Brian Bercusson
Assessing the record of European labour laws over the past ten years against what has been achieved in the UK shows that the glass is is much more than half full in Europe
British trade unions have been the major beneficiaries of European labour laws. Bercusson sees the Maastricht Treay of 1992, the Working Time regulation of 1993, the 1994 Europeamn Works Council Directive of 1994, European framework agreements and the upcoming EU Constitution to be implemented in 2004 as positive for British unions.
